We may not be the biggest SU in the world, but we are home to the best students. The Students’ Union at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama looks after 820 students and makes sure that they are having the best possible experience they can. This is the small Union which packs a big punch.

The Union’s objects are the advancement of education of Students at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama for the public benefit by:

  • promoting the interests and welfare of Students at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama during their course of study and representing, supporting and advising Students

  • being the recognised representative channel between Students and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and any other external bodies

  • providing social, cultural, sporting and recreational activities and forums for discussions and debate for the personal development of its Students

  • fostering and encouraging freedom of speech and taking measures to encourage and build a student community which celebrates the diversity of its members

All students of RWCMD are automatically members of the Students’ Union unless they choose to formally opt out of membership.

“The RWSU is here to hear you, support you and help you make the most out of your time and studies at the RWCMD”

— NIA THOMAS, SU President

Representing You!

The Students’ Union represents you on several committees and other meetings within College. Your views are important to us and we take all issues raised to the relevant forums.

The Student Council meets at least termly and is the forum where elected representatives (Course Board Reps) gather to discuss holistic student experiences issues, including organisation, catering, the work of the Students’ Union and resources and support. We are always looking for students from each year to represent the student voice so please get in touch with a member of the SU team if you’d like to get involved!

The Students’ Union is a place for you to take time out from the hectic college schedule. We have a wide range of events including LMT (Live Music Thursday) and quiz nights weekly, monologue nights, themed party events , karaoke, Writer’s Corner, Drag Races and much more throughout the year.

We also host club and society events (get in touch if you would like to organise an event in the SU this year)! The SU space is, most importantly, all about it’s students. It is firstly and foremost for the needs of the most important in our eyes and therefore, wherever we can, we try to accommodate our events to suit all students- we’re all in this together.
